So you don't draw fan art, and that's okay.

So I understand that DeviantArt is about supporting fellow artists and finding new art that inspires you but the fan art has gotten ridiculous. I'm as guilty of it as much as the next person but every time someone draws a pikachu they get 5000 favorites. I see all of these people on here with their own unique characters or stories they create but it's all overshadowed by fan art. Nobody gives feedback that matters because MLPfan9867 just uploaded a picture of a pony with tits.
Another thing that's been bothering me about DeviantArt lately is that damn near everything on the front page is just a heavily photoshopped picture. The other day there was a picture of a chocolate chip cookie. That's it. Nothing else. A Chocolate.Chip.Cookie. Are you kidding me? It had over 300 comments and none of them were constructive. They were all just "WOW LOOKS DELISH" and "I would eat that!"... of course it looks 'delish' It's a CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE.
So the next time you're about to comment on a picture of pikachu or a chocolate chip cookie with 'cool' or 'keep it up' just remember there are people creating things people have never seen before that can actually use feedback.

Chocolate chip cookie... are you kiddin me?

I would recommend signing up to Conceptart.org if you want your concepts to be critiqued/taken seriously....yes even though I sometimes like fanart the sheer VOLUME if it is overwhelming sometimes.....I don't like bashing artists reason is the arguments I might get into but JUST drawing fanart reflects poorly on the individual if they get commissioned to draw a pikachu thats fine....but don't go a studio/place and show fanart it's not good. DA in a nutshell...remember the demographic a lot of teenagers with probably too much spare time will be on this so MLP/Cute/Kawai stuff is cannon/staple..A lot of talented artists left DA just because of some of the reasons I gave moved on to better community hubs...also I want to say your work is great and keep expanding your folio whether you more interested in character design or environments just keep clocking the hours in and improving your workflow. If you can work in Zbrush/any other 3D model program that would be a plus, but the fundamentals is where you start (you have a good grasp of that)..
